Border Collie vs Australian Shepherd?

I had a Lab who passed away, and I'm still searching for another active dog who's not quite so large as Labs. I like active pups to keep me on my toes! I know both Borders and Aussies are high energy, and I have plenty of yard room for an energetic dog. But I'm not a spring chicken myself, so I'm wondering which breed is less high maintenance. Any advice would be helpful?

Both Border Collies and Australian Shepherds are whip smart and fantastic companions -- and yes, high energy!! Of the two breeds, Australian Shepherds generally aren't quite as demanding of constant mental and physical stimulation. And they tend to be a bit more laid back about the types of exercise they like compared to Borders. Just be aware that Aussies need at least an hour of exercise daily. Good luck!
