My dog hates going to the vet. What are my options?

My dog is about 8 years old and really hates going to the vet. She usually listens to me, but whenever we go to the vet, she gets very upset, starts pulling on the leash, and barks a lot while we wait. It makes me look like I cannot control her, and the vet always asks if I want to put her on anxiety meds. I'm not sure how I feel about using medication on her like that. Will anxiety meds help? Or should I try a new vet? I've heard of mobile or online vets, but do they really work?

If you're nervous about the effects of prescription medication, have you considered any holistic remedies? My pet also hates trips to the vet.
